A simple and delicious burger recipe that stays juicy and flavorful by mixing Worcestershire sauce directly into the ground beef. Perfect for quick meals and crowd-pleasing cookouts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 4 burger buns, lightly toasted (brioche or potato buns recommended)
  • Optional toppings: cheddar cheese slices, fresh lettuce leaves, tomato slices, pickles, caramelized onions, mustard or mayo

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Press a slight indentation into the center of each patty with your thumb.
  3. Preheat grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat. Brush with olive or vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Place patties on the hot surface and cook for 4-5 minutes on the first side without moving them to get a good sear.
  5. Flip carefully and cook another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. Add cheese slices in the last minute if using, cover with lid or foil to melt.
  6. Check doneness with a meat thermometer; internal temperature should reach 160°F (71°C). Avoid pressing down on patties while cooking.
  7. Toast the buns lightly on the grill or in a pan until golden.
  8. Assemble burgers by placing patties on bun bottoms, adding desired toppings, and topping with the bun crown. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overmix the meat to keep the burger tender. Press a thumb indentation in the center of patties to prevent puffing. Avoid pressing patties while cooking to retain juices. Rest burgers 3-5 minutes before serving. Toast buns to prevent sogginess. For leaner meat like turkey or chicken, add extra Worcestershire sauce for moisture. Use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps for gluten-free diets.
