Flavorful Savory S’mores Recipe with Gourmet Ham and Cheddar

A quick and easy savory twist on traditional s’mores featuring smoky ham, sharp cheddar, and buttery crackers, perfect for snack time or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Thinly sliced gourmet ham (smoky or honey-glazed variety)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese slices (about 1/4 inch thick)
  • Butter crackers or crisp bread (buttery, slightly sweet)
  • Unsalted softened butter
  • Optional: Mustard or honey mustard for a thin smear

Instructions

  1. Lay out crackers, thin slices of gourmet ham, and sharp cheddar slices.
  2. Spread a thin layer of softened unsalted butter on one side of half the crackers.
  3. On the unbuttered side of those crackers, layer a slice of ham, then a slice of cheddar. Optionally add a thin smear of mustard before the ham.
  4. Top with another cracker, buttered side facing out.
  5. Warm a non-stick skillet or cast iron pan over medium heat for about 2 minutes.
  6. Place the assembled s’mores in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  7. Remove from heat when cheese is bubbly and crackers are crisp and golden.
  8. Let rest for a minute and serve warm.

Notes

Use medium heat to avoid burning crackers before cheese melts. Press gently while toasting for even melting and crisp texture. Let cheddar sit out for 10 minutes if cold to help melting. Assemble just before cooking to keep crackers crisp. Store leftovers in airtight container in fridge up to 2 days and reheat in skillet or toaster oven to restore crispness. Avoid microwaving.
