  • 6 strips thick-cut bacon, cooked and chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 burger buns, toasted
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Pickles
  • Optional condiments: mayo, mustard, or favorite burger sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon: Fry 6 strips of thick-cut bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy but not burnt (about 6-8 minutes). Drain on paper towels, then chop into small pieces.
  2. Prepare the beef mixture: In a large bowl, combine 1 lb ground beef, chopped bacon, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp black pepper, and 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce. Gently mix until just combined.
  3. Form the patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into ¾-inch (2 cm) thick patties. Press a small dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb.
  4. Preheat your grill: Heat grill or grill pan to medium-high. Clean and oil the grates lightly.
  5. Grill the patties: Place patties on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on the first side. Flip carefully and lay a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Grill another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness (internal temp 160°F/71°C).
  6. Toast the buns: While burgers finish, toast buns cut side down on the grill for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
  7. Assemble the burgers: Spread condiments on buns, add lettuce, tomato, pickles, the cheesy bacon beef patty, and top with the bun crown. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overmix the meat to avoid dense burgers. Press a dimple in the center of patties to prevent puffing. Let burgers rest 3-5 minutes after grilling for juiciness. Oil grill grates to prevent sticking. For gluten-free, use lettuce wraps or gluten-free buns.
